This ancient market town
is located in the upper Tywi
Valley, on the edge of the
Brecon Beacons National Park.
Llandovery means "The Church
Amidst the Waters" since it
is flanked by the Towi and
the Bran rivers with the Y
Bawddwr meandering through
the town centre.
|
|
|
| Llandovery was a
major commercial centre for the
cattle drovers and because of
the large amounts of money they
had to carry about the first bank
in Wales was set up here. This
was the 'Black Ox bank' which
was taken over by Lloyds and still
exists in the town today. |

History
Llandovery
has the remains of a 12th century
castle standing atop a hillock
with a striking stainless steel
statue to Llywelyn ap Gruffydd
Fychan (the Welsh martyr who
was executed in Llandovery in
1401 for helping Owain Glyndwr
elude Henry IV)
The region
is ideal for outdoor leisure
activities such as walking,
bird watching (this is Red Kite
country), horse riding, fishing,
cycling etc. and their are too
many places to visit to list
here. Suffice to say that the
spectacular scenery boasts gorges,
rivers, waterfalls and a tranquility
that is, unfortunately, rapidly
diminishing in other parts of
the country. Oh, and some of
the best beaches in the UK are
within 1 hours drive!!!

|
| Biking
it
Llandovery in the summer is
a prime spot to stop for bikers.
Bikers come in their hundreds
in the weekends to enjoy the
windy country roads. It is a
real show to watch! |

Beauty
Llandovery is
a beautiful town which bursts
to life with its beautiful
flower displays in the summer
months. You can tell that
the locals are proud of their
town as it is a real picture
of beauty!
